All The Best Comedies On Netflix Streaming

Groundhog day

Columbia

The most important thing about a good comedy is its ability to generate laughs years after its release. It’s a lot easier to create topical humor, but the kind of laughs that break age and time barriers are few and far between. The films here are capital “C” comedies, with less attention paid to films that added comedy to their formula via action or drama. All of these movies can be seen on Netflix streaming, so do yourself a favor and start watching a few of these gems with your loved ones.

30 ) Four Rooms

Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez do a bang-up job in this anthology film that is essentially four movies in one. Tim Roth plays the bumbling hotel staffer quite nicely.

29 ) Fools Rush In

People forget that at one time Matthew Perry was one of the funniest physical actors in the world. This film and The Whole Nine Yards proves that, and although Fools Rush In is far from perfect, it’s great to see Perry at the top of his game.

28 ) Billy Madison

This is the film that made Adam Sandler a star and it provided some guttural laughs when it was released. It’s not as funny today as it once was — Sandler became a one-joke kind of star — but it’s still mindless fare that can be enjoyed from time to time.

27 ) Down and Out in Beverly Hills

Want to watch Nick Nolte eat out of a dog bowl? You’re in luck…

26 ) BASEketball

Although another one of their films ranks higher on this list, BASEketball shows that Trey Parker and Matt Stone can skewer just about anything.

25 ) The Ref

The Ref is an underrated comedy with Denis Leary turning in possibly his best performance outside of Rescue Me.

24 ) School of Rock

Sure, it’s sort of meant for kids, but Richard Linklater and Jack Black (more on them later) can provide laughs for any age group.

23 ) Bad Santa

Gross, profane, and downright hilarious, Bad Santa is a booze-soaked trip in Santa’s sleigh that’s always an enjoyable ride.

22 ) The Trip

The riff on Michael Caine’s voice is worth the price of admission in this road trip film that sees two actors playing versions of themselves. Steve Coogan is tremendous (as usual).

21 ) Sleepwalk With Me

Mike Birbiglia’s comedy based on his actual propensity to walk in his sleep is a sleeper itself — not enough people have seen this gem. If you haven’t heard his story about how he fell two stories out of a hotel window, do yourself a favor and look it up.
