Marisa Tomei (“The Wrestler,” “My Cousin Vinny”) is reportedly the top choice to play Aunt May in Sony Pictures’ upcoming Marvel-approved “Spider-Man” reboot.
An offer was reportedly made last week for the Oscar-winning actress to be the second member of the Jon Watts-directed film’s cast following the selection of Tom Holland as the new Peter Parker. Unlike Peter, the Aunt May character will NOT show up in next year’s “Captain America: Civil War” first.
It’s uncertain where things stand in the deal-making process, and Sony and Marvel have made no comment on the casting, but hers and several other actors deals for the movie are certain to include options for numerous sequels.
Writers are still being sought to join Watts in penning the film, but the studio is aiming to lock down other actors as soon as possible so shooting can get underway next year ahead of the film’s July 2017 release. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal will produce.
