WARNING! Spoilers ahead for Batman: Dark Age #4Catwoman has had many iconic looks throughout the years, but her latest costume is the perfect companion piece to the Dark Knight’s, coming in the world of Batman: Dark Age. The alternate universe version of both characters have been carefully built up in the series until this point, so getting to see the two taking action in costume is a definite treat for fans.

Batman: Dark Age #4 – written by Mark Russell, with Mike and Laura Allred – continues the series’ novel reinvention of the Bat-mythos, taking place in real time from the fifties through to today. This alternate version of Bruce Wayne already has a history with Selina Kyle, but fans get their first look at her alter-ego in this issue.

Selina’s Dark Age look mirrors Batman’s in its real-world application, made up primarily of a leather catsuit, boots, gloves and a helmet-like mask. This Catwoman completes her look with a leather satchel, which will surely come in handy during all that cat-burgling.

Mike Allred’s design feels like something that a person in the real world could piece together, which makes it an ideal look for prospective cosplayers.

Mike Allred’s design feels like something that a person in the real world could piece together, which makes it an ideal look for prospective cosplayers. It’s a look that is definitely in keeping with the more grounded approach of Batman: Dark Age, which has flipped much of the Bat-mythos on their ear while still keeping true to the spirit of the character. Dick Grayson also debuts as Robin in this issue, wearing a costume in his classic colors, but made up of body armor and more protective gear.

Catwoman’s costume is appropriate for the period-era of the series, as Diana Rigg would have been rocking a leather catsuit around the same time as Emma Peel on TV’s The Avengers. Emma Peel’s signature outfit wound up influencing comics themselves, as she famously served as the inspiration for the “mod” era of Wonder Woman after she lost her powers. When Darwyn Cooke redesigned Catwoman’s costume in the early 2000’s, the artist also took direct inspiration from Emma Peel, giving Selina a costume that would stay in place for the next two decades.
