The Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) has confirmed it will sit down for a meeting with the AMPTP this coming Friday in an effort to put an end to the writer’s strike, which has just begun its fourth month.
This follows on from reports earlier today suggesting the two sides had been making plans to restart negotiations and potentially end at least one of the strikes that have crippled the film and TV industries.
As it appears negotiations could begin again soon should the meeting go successfully, it would mark the first significant bit of progress surrounding the industrial action since the writer’s strike began on May 2nd.
The writer’s guild’s negotiating committee issued a note to its members tonight, which said:
“The AMPTP, through Carol Lombardini, reached out to the WGA today and requested a meeting this Friday to discuss negotiations.
We’ll be back in communication with you sometime after the meeting with further information. As we’ve said before, be wary of rumors. Whenever there is important news to share, you will hear it directly from us.”
There are still plenty of discussions to be had on a number of topics still not settled on between the pair, including minimum staffing, duration of employment, viewership-based streaming residuals and artificial intelligence.
