Happy Valentine’s Day, your Cumberlove is DEAD! Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are set to marry today, somewhere in Britain. I heard this rumor a week ago – that Benedict and Sophie were planning their quickie shotgun marriage for Valentine’s Day – but I didn’t believe it until People Magazine confirmed it last night. I guess we should have known it was happening sooner rather than later. After all, we heard that Benedict and Sophie were in such a rush to marry that they were sending out their wedding invites via email (tacky!).
How romantic! Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are set to wed on Valentine’s Day. The couple will tie the knot in front of family and close friends Saturday in Britain, a source confirms to PEOPLE, before taking off for Los Angeles. British papers first broke the happy news.
A newlywed Cumberbatch will appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday. But back in January, Cumberbatch said his wedding planning was on hold until the end of awards season.
“One thing at a time!” the Oscar nominee joked at the Palm Springs Film Festival.
After the nuptials, the couple will take a few days to honeymoon in California, the source says, before the Oscars on Feb. 22. Cumberbatch is nominated for Best Actor for his work in The Imitation Game.
Wow, a quickie shotgun wedding and a working honeymoon in LA, where Benedict will appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday? Sophie’s a lucky girl! Ha. The Daily Mirror says the ceremony will happen – or is happening right now – at the Isle of Wight. The Daily Mail says Martin Freeman will be Bendy’s best man, although I think that sounds like fan fiction. The Mail also says Keira Knightley will be one of the celebrity guests, but I would imagine that’s one of the problems with having your wedding on a big, romantic holiday: your potential guests don’t want to break their existing V-Day plans just to celebrate your wedding.
I’ll update as soon as we get confirmation on the wedding. I’m betting Sophie wears Valentino.
Update: As predicted, Bendy and Sophie married at the Isle of Wight today. People Magazine had lots of details, many of which I’m assuming came straight from Bendy’s publicist. The church service took place at St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church in Mottistone. Apparently, the whole area has a close association to Sophie, and I’m kind of thinking that the bride’s family paid for most of this stuff (as tradition would have it, but still – Bendy is a wealthy actor). People makes it sound like the whole thing was pretty quiet and low-key and they probably didn’t have a very big wedding party. Oh, and E! News says Martin Freeman was a guest, but not Bendy’s best man.
