Ahead of the release of the Marvel Studios animated series “X-Men ’97,” Marvel Comics is releasing a prequel comic series in the lead-up to the show’s premiere.
Beau DeMayo created and is the head writer on the new TV series, which serves as a revival of the iconic 1990’s “X-Men: The Animated Series”.
The new comic, also titled “X-Men ’97,” serves as a companion story to the series and will showcase what the 1990s animated X-Men characters have been up to in the time between the original and revival shows.
The books will be written by Steve Foxe (“Dead X-Men”), with art by Salva Espín. The first issue will hit stores on March 27th.
The TV series will continue in a period not too long after the original series finished. Storm and Wolverine try to continue the X-Men whilst Magneto comes in and wants to step up for Charles Xavier. Sinister comes in to try to end the X-Men once and for all.
A list of episode titles have gone up at Can We Get Some Toast and are as follows:
1. To Me, My X-Men
2. Mutant Liberation Begins
3. Fire Made Flesh
4. Motendo
5. Remember It
6. Bright Eyes
7. Shine With Strength Reborn
8. Tolerance is Extinction – Part 1
9. Tolerance is Extinction – Part 2
10. Tolerance is Extinction – Part 3
The show also serves as the first X-Men project from Marvel Studios following the merger with 21st Century Fox.
Several cast members from the original series are returning including Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, Alison Sealy-Smith, Adrian Hough, Christopher Britton, and Alyson Court.
The TV series will launch sometime next year with a second season already in development.
